Developmental Kindergarten is designed for children who have attended preschool for at least a semester and who turn five years old in the summer or early fall.

This unique program was developed to meet the needs of children who would benefit from additional time before entering kindergarten or who miss the September 1st cut-off for kindergarten enrollment, but would benefit from a curriculum that is more challenging than a preschool program. Phonics and math concepts are practiced with creative hands-on activities. Verbal and writing skills are fostered through exposure to literature and creation of books. “Handwriting Without Tears,” a developmentally appropriate penmanship curriculum, is used with much success.

Children in the Developmental Kindergarten Program attend Lamb’s Gate Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
